FirstLight Power today announced its spring and summer recreation plans.   “We are looking forward to welcoming visitors back to beautiful New England this summer!”  said Len Greene, Director of Government Affairs and Communications. “We are excited to be able to re-open most of our facilities, within state and local guidelines, and we hope people will come discover the area’s lovely rivers, lakes, and trails.”

Turners Falls Fishway Viewing:  Because the fishway viewing area is too small to allow for social distancing, we are happy to announce that FirstLight has added an outdoor viewing area for this year’s migration – a monitor will show a live feed from a camera in the fishway.  We hope you will come and enjoy the spring migration!  Hours for the migration viewing are 9-5 from May 15 through June 6.

Campgrounds now accepting reservations:  FirstLight’s campgrounds at Barton Cove and Munns Ferry are now accepting reservations for summer camping, for camping starting May 28th, and we are happy to say that we’ve added online booking this year!  Half of the campsites will be left empty to allow for social distancing, and the larger 30-person group sites will remain closed for the time being, in keeping with state public health guidelines.  Picnic tables and grills associated with each of the campsites will be available and sanitized upon the departure of the group renting the campsite.  Restroom facilities at these parks will be sanitized once a day. Face masks will be required at the site whenever visitors are outside their designated campsite, or until the public health guidance changes.  Any other picnic tables and grills will not be open to the public, and there will be no drinking water available at the campsite – all campers must bring their own drinking water.  For further questions, or to make a reservation for a campsite, please visit firstlightpdev.wpengine.com/recreation or call 413-863-9300.

FirstLight’s Barton Cove paddle rental facility has 50 water craft including canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards that can be rented for 2 hours or for the day. Each rental comes complete with personal flotation devices and paddles. Canoe and kayak rentals will begin on May 29th and run through October 11th.  The rental facility is at 82 French King Highway, Gill, MA and is open from 9-5 Monday-Friday and 9-6 Sat-Sun.

Heritage river cruises:  We are monitoring state guidelines and hope to be able to offer river cruises later in the summer.  Check firstlightpdev.wpengine.com for updates.

FirstLight has been opening its recreation facilities as it is able to in accordance with state public health guidelines.  FirstLight appreciates your support and understanding as we all continue to work together to stop the spread of COVID-19.  Public safety and that of our employees is our first priority.
