FirstLight Power, the owner and operator of the dam at Turners Falls, is preparing for the spring fish passage per the 2020 Connecticut River Atlantic Salmon Commission (CRASC) guidelines.  The CRASC schedule of fishway operations indicates that Turners Falls upstream fishways will open once 50 shad have passed through Holyoke.  Following guidance from local, state, and federal agencies, FirstLight regrets that the fishway public viewing area will not be open at least through May 4th due to the COVID19 epidemic. Please check www.firstlightpower.com for further updates about the public viewing area.  For more information about Connecticut River fish passage and spring counts, please see the US Fish and wildlife Service’s Connecticut River Fish and Wildlife Conservation Office website

FirstLight also announced that its fishways at its hydroelectric plants at the Scotland dam on the Shetucket River in Windham, CT, Taftville dam on the Shetucket River in Norwich, CT, and Tunnel Dam on the Quinebaug River in Norwich, CT, went into operation on April 3 for the spring 2020 fish passage season.
