Located on a rocky peninsula jutting into the Connecticut River, Barton Cove is an ideal place to take a day trip or camp for the week. With a day-use picnic area, bathrooms, tent camping, and minimal automobile access, it is a peaceful place for families. At Barton Cove we take pride in preserving the enjoyment of tent camping. Shaded walks, sunsets over the Connecticut River, quiet paddling in plunge pools of ancient waterfalls, and viewing bald eagles are pleasures you can enjoy here. |
Barton Cove is located on Route 2, in Gill, Massachusetts.
- From the North or South via Route 91: Take exit 27, travel East for 3 miles on Route 2, campground entrance is on your right.
- From the East via Route 2: Cross the Connecticut River on the French King Bridge, go approximately 3 miles, campground office is on your left, one-quarter mile past the campground entrance.
Each campsite has a picnic table, hibachi and fireplace. Showers are available near the ranger station, and there are two group sites available for larger groups interested in camping together. Two sites suitable for pop-up trailers or class C camper vans are also available. The sites have no utility hookups. Barton Cove Campground is open Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. Scout groups can camp by special arrangement through November. Reservations will be taken beginning Wednesday April 8, call: (413) 863-9300. A deposit is required to secure your reservation. Deposits are partially refundable only with eight days notice or 31 days for group sites.

Munns Ferry in Northfield is a small camping area for boaters and canoeists only. Tent sites are $22/night and the Adirondack shelter is $30/night. Water is not available on site and reservations are required. Reservations will be taken beginning Wednesday April 8, call: (413) 863-9300. Munns Ferry closes Columbus Day.
- To help protect local forests from deadly tree pest species, like the Asian Longhorned beetle currently found in Worcester County, MA, campers may not bring any firewood to our sites.
- Clean, local camp wood is available for $5 per bundle at the campground office.
