Hydroelectric Facilities Hydroelectric power — water power — at one time supplied a majority of New England's energy needs. Today consumers increasingly look to hydroelectric generation for clean, reliable, renewable power to meet their energy needs. FirstLight Power Resources operates conventional hydro stations on the Shetucket and Housatonic Rivers in Connecticut and the Connecticut River in Massachusetts. These stations typically operate during periods of high electricity demand. They also play an important role in the effort to restore anadromous fish, such as the Atlantic salmon and the American shad, to New England's waterways, aided by the installation of fish passageways facilities like those that have been installed in some of our hydro stations in Western Massachusetts. In addition to our portfolio of conventional hydro power, FirstLight Power Resources operates a 1,080-megawatt pumped-storage hydroelectric station in Northfield, Massachusetts, and a 29-megawatt pumped-storage facility in New Milford, Connecticut.
